Yum! Bubble Gum!

Lately I've been wondering why in the world pharmaceutical companies feel compelled to add flavor to many of the medications prescribed often to children... I'm sure there are some kids out there that don't like to take medicine no matter what it tastes like, but my child is the EXACT opposite! Franklyn LOVES to take medicine! He begs for it. He was recently prescribed Amoxicillin for a sinus infection. When I first opened the bottle I immediately smelled bubble gum and I said, "Oh Franklyn, this smells yummy!" He couldn't wait to get the dropper in his mouth! The next evening I was preparing to give him a dose when he said, "Just let me drink it!" I told him he couldn't do that and he said, "I did this morning." I was trying to do two things at once and only half noticed what he said... After he said it a few more times I looked at him and said, "What are you talking about? You didn't DRINK your medicine this morning!" He had been at home with Scott that morning and Scott had been the one to administer the dose... I looked at Scott and said, "You didn't let him drink this this morning, did you?" Scott couldn't believe I even asked! I looked closely at the bottle and noticed there was quite a bit missing to have only given him three doses at that point... Franklyn said, "I drinked it while Daddy cleaned the dropper..." After a frantic call to the pharmacy, I discovered he wasn't going to die on us... It all got me to thinking though... Franklyn KNOWS that too much medicine could hurt him. He has been told over and over and over again. Apparently though, that particular morning, the smell of the bubble gum flavor and the proximity of the uncapped bottle (and the preoccupied Daddy) was too much of a temptation. I started thinking about how we are the same way with letting sin in our lives. We know it could hurt us, but it is SO inviting and SO available! We don't even think it through. Like a four year-old, we just drink it in... Like Eve, we take a bite. Like David, we lust. Franklyn was covered by the fact that a few swigs of Amoxicillin won't kill you. Me? I thank God I'm covered by the blood of Christ!

New Toys and Sick Boys

Franklyn was sick on Thursday so we had to make a trip to his pediatrician in Murfreesboro. Of course, pretty much every trip to the doctor ends up with a trip to WalMart to fill prescriptions. Franklyn had some money that his Nenaw and Papaw sent him for Valentine's Day so I let him use it while we were at WalMart. He is a nurturing little boy so he chose one of the little FurReal pets. He snuggled with "Spots" the rest of the day!
Another new toy for my sick little boy is his package of Wikki Stix. Franklyn has seen a commercial on television over and over again for BendARoos and he has the whole commercial memorized! I kid you not! Out of the blue he would come up to me and start spouting lines from the commercial just to make sure sure I knew the amazing creations wouldn't stain the wall, etc... He has been begging for them ever since he first saw the commercial back in September. Anyhow, a friend at work told me about Wikki Stix so I tracked some down. Franklyn has literally spent hours at a time with his new toy. It's amazing the things kids love!

Here We Go!

Well, this is the very beginning of The Whaley Wall! Hopefully it will be a great way for us to let family and friends keep up with what is going on in the Whaley house! I LOVE to write, so I'm hoping I'll be able to find the time to post many interesting stories about the things happening in our lives. One thing is certain, our lives are NOT boring!
