Pinky Jiggy

We stayed at my Mom and Dad's house while we were in Jefferson City for Scott's 20th high school reunion. As usual, Mimi gave Franklyn a little cash before we left to go home. We stopped at Target on the way through Knoxville to let him spend his money. Never the one to choose the cheap toy, Franklyn used the money to buy a $60 riding toy that was obviously made for a girl... He rode the thing all through Target on the way to the register to check out.

We bought monster truck stickers for Franklyn to apply to the pink sections of the toy just to make it a little more masculine. All the way home from Knoxville he kept saying, "When will we be home so I can ride my pinky jiggy?" No idea where he came up with that name!

I can't say we were excited about Franklyn having a pink and yellow riding toy, but it sure makes him SMILE!

Roller Skating

Mimi came to visit one Saturday in June and brought Franklyn a pair of roller skates! He was sooooo excited. He started out inside on the carpet and was later brave enough to try them out on the concrete. He was able to pick out his own helmet, elbow pads and knee pads earlier that day while we were shopping. He told me he also needed some butt pads! :-)

Franklyn was a little easier to teach than I thought he would be... He learned to balance himself with his arms and how to get himself going. Now he begs on a daily basis to go outside and roller skate!

The funniest thing about watching him is seeing that HUGE helmet on his head! I guess koreans have large heads... He had to have the one for eight year-olds! I don't know how he keeps his balance with that thing on!

Father's Day 2009

Scott was on a youth trip Father's Day morning so he didn't get to be a part of the pre-church photo shoot. I decided I could at least capture a few shots of Franklyn in his adorable outfit before heading out the door. We had a great morning at church and then took Scott to Los 3 Amigos for lunch. It was a nice Sunday!

Vacation Bible School

Franklyn has really enjoyed VBS this year. He loves the crafts, the songs, and the teachers. He kinda loves his girlfriends too....

CUTIE!

One of my favorite things in the world is dressing Franklyn..... I think I work just so we can go on vacation and dress Franklyn nice. Not good! But, he sure is a doll!

VACATION!!!!

Boy, did we need a vacation by early May! I was joking around one day and told my boss that I needed a vacation and he said, "Take one!" So, I got on the Carnival website and booked a cruise that was only 2 1/2 weeks away! I'm so glad we took the time to get away! The drive to Tampa was well worth it!

We cruised to Grand Cayman and had 2 wonderful days there! We shopped, went to the beach, toured Georgetown and Hell (that's right), visited the Turtle Farm, and just plain relaxed during the fun days at sea. Franklyn enjoyed the water park on the ship and had fun going down the slides. Scott and I enjoyed the food and the Mommy/Daddy time! We ALL enjoyed the naps!

We are definitely addicted to cruising and we already have another one booked for November. Can't wait!

EASTER 2009

EASTER!!!!! Easter 2009 was just about one of the best we've had as a family! Franklyn and Daddy colored Easter eggs on Saturday afternoon. Franklyn has so much fun doing anything that lets him be creative. He's quite the artist!

Sunday morning Franklyn woke up to the sound of me screaming that the Easter Bunny had just hopped out of the house. I love the fact that I'm still able to convince him that things like the Easter Bunny actually exist. :-) He was pretty excited to find things like a kite and a bug catching kit among the goodies! All I heard the whole morning was, "Can I fly my kite now?"

We came home and made some quick pictures after church. Then we headed to Los 3 Amigos for a yummy mexican Easter lunch. What could be better than that?

Franklyn is such a ham when it comes to picture time. It's all I can do to get him to let me take a picture where he's not cutting up or making a funny face.

After our lunchtime fiesta at Los 3 Amigos, we took an afternoon siesta... Then we went outside to plant Franklyn's annual Easter tree. It's something we look forward to every year. This year, though, Franklyn was more excited about using his new bug catching kit. He dug up about seven worms and stuck them in the bug keeper. He kept going outside to check on them the rest of the evening. He was a little disappointed a few hours later when they were all shriveled up and dead! :-(

SNOW!!!!!

Franklyn has been praying for snow ever since he was able to speak. Apparently, God finally saw fit to provide! :-) With no snow boots to throw on his feet, we stuck Franklyn in his good tennis shoes and wrapped WalMart bags around them. He didn't mind. All he cared about was getting out in the snow.

Franklyn has had this snow hat for a couple of years and was really excited to finally get to wear it. Can't you tell?

The only gloves we had for Franklyn were the one size fits all knit gloves you find at dollar stores for a dollar... I know his little hands had to be frozen, but he was not deterred. He just wanted to dig right in!

Franklyn was practically buried in the snow when he made his snow angels. He had so much fun!

Franklyn and Daddy made a HUGE snowman. It was Franklyn's first. I wanted to use a cheese stick for his nose because we didn't have any carrots. Franklyn thought that was silly. He insisted that they should just use a stick... He is soooooo practical!

New Bedroom Furniture

Scott and I have been married for almost eighteen years and we have never had NEW bedroom furniture... After so many years of hand me downs, we finally decided to bite the bullet and purchase what we've always wanted. I've been addicted to HGTV and felt inspired to completely get rid of everything we had in the bedroom. The only things that returned after being moved out were the pillows on the bed!

I bought all new picture frames, printed a variety of new 8x10 photographs, bought new lamps, new bowls, new candles, a new down comforter... Seeing the end result, I am soooo happy!

One thing I love about the room now is that it is so simple! There is not a lot of clutter and things just seem more in order. One thing I DON'T love would be the bruises and knots on my legs from bumping into the footboard over and over again. It's going to take a while to get used to it being there!

Yum! Bubble Gum!

Lately I've been wondering why in the world pharmaceutical companies feel compelled to add flavor to many of the medications prescribed often to children... I'm sure there are some kids out there that don't like to take medicine no matter what it tastes like, but my child is the EXACT opposite! Franklyn LOVES to take medicine! He begs for it. He was recently prescribed Amoxicillin for a sinus infection. When I first opened the bottle I immediately smelled bubble gum and I said, "Oh Franklyn, this smells yummy!" He couldn't wait to get the dropper in his mouth! The next evening I was preparing to give him a dose when he said, "Just let me drink it!" I told him he couldn't do that and he said, "I did this morning." I was trying to do two things at once and only half noticed what he said... After he said it a few more times I looked at him and said, "What are you talking about? You didn't DRINK your medicine this morning!" He had been at home with Scott that morning and Scott had been the one to administer the dose... I looked at Scott and said, "You didn't let him drink this this morning, did you?" Scott couldn't believe I even asked! I looked closely at the bottle and noticed there was quite a bit missing to have only given him three doses at that point... Franklyn said, "I drinked it while Daddy cleaned the dropper..." After a frantic call to the pharmacy, I discovered he wasn't going to die on us... It all got me to thinking though... Franklyn KNOWS that too much medicine could hurt him. He has been told over and over and over again. Apparently though, that particular morning, the smell of the bubble gum flavor and the proximity of the uncapped bottle (and the preoccupied Daddy) was too much of a temptation. I started thinking about how we are the same way with letting sin in our lives. We know it could hurt us, but it is SO inviting and SO available! We don't even think it through. Like a four year-old, we just drink it in... Like Eve, we take a bite. Like David, we lust. Franklyn was covered by the fact that a few swigs of Amoxicillin won't kill you. Me? I thank God I'm covered by the blood of Christ!

New Toys and Sick Boys

Franklyn was sick on Thursday so we had to make a trip to his pediatrician in Murfreesboro. Of course, pretty much every trip to the doctor ends up with a trip to WalMart to fill prescriptions. Franklyn had some money that his Nenaw and Papaw sent him for Valentine's Day so I let him use it while we were at WalMart. He is a nurturing little boy so he chose one of the little FurReal pets. He snuggled with "Spots" the rest of the day!
Another new toy for my sick little boy is his package of Wikki Stix. Franklyn has seen a commercial on television over and over again for BendARoos and he has the whole commercial memorized! I kid you not! Out of the blue he would come up to me and start spouting lines from the commercial just to make sure sure I knew the amazing creations wouldn't stain the wall, etc... He has been begging for them ever since he first saw the commercial back in September. Anyhow, a friend at work told me about Wikki Stix so I tracked some down. Franklyn has literally spent hours at a time with his new toy. It's amazing the things kids love!

Here We Go!

Well, this is the very beginning of The Whaley Wall! Hopefully it will be a great way for us to let family and friends keep up with what is going on in the Whaley house! I LOVE to write, so I'm hoping I'll be able to find the time to post many interesting stories about the things happening in our lives. One thing is certain, our lives are NOT boring!
